Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table
Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the team reach locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
